A&M-SA becomes first Purple Heart University in San Antonio
Texas A&M University-San Antonio is now one of only four Texas universities, and the first in San Antonio, to be designated a Purple Heart University. The Military Order of the Purple Heart, which seeks to foster an environment of goodwill and camaraderie among combat wounded veterans, searches for universities that go above and beyond to provide a welcoming environment and excellent service for the military community. By becoming a Purple Heart University, Texas A&M-San Antonio honors the sacrifices made by Purple Heart Medal recipients and shows gratitude to all veterans for their contributions to defending the freedom of the United States.
Dr. Maria Hernandez Ferrier signed a proclamation on Thursday, November 13, to confirm the designation of Texas A&M-San Antonio as a Purple Heart University in the Ceremony Room of the Patriots' Casa. Department Adjutant for the Department of Texas Military Order of the Purple Heart Bill Crumlett attended along with members of the Alamo Chapter 1836.
The ceremony aired on Time Warner Cable News and was featured in the San Antonio Business Journal.

Bringing the library into the digital age
University librarians, Pru Morris and Deirdre McDonald's article on linking subject-specific LibGuides from Blackboard using librarian-created JavaScript was recently published in the anthology, Virtually Embedded: The Librarian in an Online Environment. Morris and McDonald provided their JavaScript code free to other librarians to demonstrate one way of linking LibGuides in Blackboard. Published by the Association of College and Research Libraries, Virtually Embedded focuses on the intersection of embedded librarians and virtual services in academic libraries.
